3G iPhone Starts at $199

iPhone 3GDuring his WWDC Keynote, Steve Jobs announced the next version of the iPhone.  The new iPhone 3G will feature GPS, a black plastic back and all metal buttons. It will be available on July 11th, and will come in two capacities.  The 8GB version will cost $199 and the 16GB version will cost just $299.

Both versions of the iPhone 3G will benefit from increased battery performance.  Talk time will be increased to 5 hours, browsing time will be 5-6 hours, and standby time will increase to 300 hours.

MobileMe Announced

MobileMeToday Apple announced that they will be replacing their aging .Mac service with a new offering called MobileMe.  The service will be offered at the same $99 price point as .Mac but will bring a raft of new features including over-the-air syncing with iPhones and iPod Touches.  Users will also be able to sync with their Mac or PC. 

MobileMe will sport a completely new look and will launch in early July at which time existing .Mac customers will be transitioned to the new service.

iPhone SDK Beta Available

iPhone SDKApple has posted a beta version of their much anticipated iPhone SDK.  The 2GB download requires registration (free), but once you are registered you get access to not only the SDK, but also a number of reference materials and several “getting started” videos. 

Apple TV Take2 Tour Video

Apple TVApple has posted another guided tour video, this time showcasing the updated features of Apple TV Take2.

The video focuses primarily on video rentals, but also touches on improved podcast support and Flickr integration.

Apple Posts MacBook Air Tour Video

MacBook AirApple has posted a guided video tour showcasing the features of the newly announced MacBook Air.

The video further explains many features including remote disk, multi-touch trackpad, backlit keyboard and more.

MacBook/Pro owners beware!

Just about two months ago Mac Specialist purchased a white MacBook configured with a superdrive. We made the decision to skip the black version as we had plans to upgrade past the stock configuration on both the memory and the hard drive. We had no idea that a winding road laid ahead of us.

We promptly ordered 2 sticks of memory and the biggest drive we could find at the time (with any sort of reasonable price tag). We picked up the 5400rpm 120gb Western Digital Scorpio from Other World computing. Upon arrival we quickly imaged the stock drive to an external and popped the Scorpio in. In under an hour it was up and running with the drive and the up to date image.
